Richard Mosse | pink eye

Young gun Richard Mosse’s “Quick” series is mind blowing. This series is shot with Kodak’s Aerochrome infared film which revels a spectrum of light beyond what the human eye can perceive…and I die for it.

I love that with a simple switch of the pallet these images of conflict become celebratory, playful and sureal.

Foley Gallery | new spaces new faces

Last night was the opening of Foley Gallery’s Summer Staged exhibition and the first show in the new space which is big n pretty, split with the new Sasha Wolf Gallery and is the venue for Exhibition Labs which started classes this week. (longest sentence ever?) SO much fun! There is some nice work and old favs (Mellisa Pinney!) in the show - though I find it watered down like many theme based group shows are.

Go see the new space! Say hey to my girl Ashley at Exhibition Lab and have a beer from their keg.

Artists in the order in which they appear:

William Rugen | S. Billie Mandle | Bahar Yurukogu | Phil Jung

Will Steacy | Michael Mazzeo Gallery | more danger

Ups to tough guy Will Steacy. The show at Michael Mazzeo looks great. A bit steamy in there for the opening but that’s what happens when you corral such beautiful people together. Seriously - dude is pretty fly.

Though I enjoyed myself thoroughly. I feel like this series “These mean streets” is like a PowerPoint presentation my parents might have shown me before I moved to the Bedstuy. If you look at, or present, any neighborhood (or anything for that matter) through the gaze of danger and fear than that is what you will see. Though I congratulate Will on not getting his camera yanked I don’t agree with the techniques being used here to make blanket statements on impoverished urban communities. But If this series (or way of working) must go on I challenge this, make these pictures at like 11:30pm, during high school summer break, in the Marcy Projects and show me what there is to be afraid of.

Mikael Kennedy | a little bit softer now

Maybe its just this time of year (or my lack of motivation to do anything) but these really make me want to take a vaca up the coast. Love love these hazy morning photos by local hot boy Mikael Kennedy.
